Default Guild Wars Messanger

I propose a Guild Wars Messanger, or atleast a way to check if anyone on your friends list/guild is online out of the game.

But I supose something like that would cause people who are just in game to chat, would quit and just use the messanger, thus less traffic in the game, which i don't know if its good or bad.

Anyway, just an idea

Err... just ask your friends for their msn address or something... besides, if their Guild Wars.exe isn't running, that likely also means they don't intend to play at that time.

No need for another messenger service, just use MSN Messenger or something. I think the friend and guild list is already very good for seeing when someone is online and wants to play. Having a GW service that tells you when someone is online but not logged in just feels too much like stalking. If you're logged out, chances are you don't feel like playing or can't play right then.
If you want to ask people to get online to play, then maybe pre-arrange game times or ask them to join whatever messenger you use?

GW is not meant to be an instant message service anyway.

Good point(s), but still, if you make a freeware messanger type thing, you can give it to your friends who don't play guild wars, which will spare you having to alt tab every second second to check if someone messaged you, that, and half the people I know hate MSN and prefer Skype, the other half hate Skype and prefer MSN. So now I have both, and neither seem capable of letting you know someone messanged you while you are in the game.

If they made a Guild Wars messenger, people who don't play GW wouldn't use it at all. Why should they, when it's game-specific? If such a thing is ever made, it would be players-only so that it can't be abused by outsiders. Also, it would cost a pretty penny for Anet to keep a service like that up for everyone.
Then you'd be stuck with three different messengers and a bunch of people who still obstinately stick with the single one they like.

Here's a tip for seeing when someone sends you a message while you're playing. Put GW in window-mode (found in Options), instead of having it full-screen. I use irc this way while playing to chat with friends who don't play, and sometimes to share strategies with people who play but aren't online. Having the game in window-mode allows you to see your desktop as much as you like, since you can easily resize the game window.

If you don't like the window-mode, then maybe you should think about concentrating on the game for a certain amount of time, and talking with your friends only when not logged on?

I have no problem using MSN and GW at the same time. I just don't maximize the window.
